We wish we were there with you.

We were hit by Hurricane Ian. We are ok and today, 4 days after we have water and just got electricity. Many around us have lost everything. I did cook your wife’s Chicken Cacciatore before the storm eating it cold during the storm along with my homemade sourdough whole wheat bead.

Keep South West Florida in your prayers. Many have lost everything.

Don’t forget to visit the Pinacoteca Comunale and see Rosso Fiorentino’s Deposition from the Cross. It will take your breath as much as the views! Una bellissima città.

We definitely prefer the lesser known places. Sarteano is a gem in southern Tuscany that we have visited multiple times for its choral conducting workshop. Thank you for this info about Volterra.

Leaving for Volterra on Wednesday. We love it so much we purchased an apartment a year ago. The people are wonderful as is the food! The views are stunning! The only thing I need to do now is become more fluent in Italian!

We had the pleasure of spending the day in Volterra the last time we visited Tuscany. We chose it for the same reasons you did. We enjoyed the Etruscan and Roman ruins and the artisans. We purchased a beautiful etching from one as a reminder of our lovely day. Thank you for sharing.

Love Volterra, and also Giulia’s suggestion of Ristorante Il Vecchio Mulino. We have been twice now!

I've been there twice and it truly is a special place. The ones off the well-beaten tourist tracks are the best ones.

We loved Volterra--we visited the first time 5 or so years ago. We were lucky enough to have a surprise overlap with the Mille Miglia vintage car “parade” which was such fun! It made the drive pretty entertaining, since all the antique cars were on the road too.

It’s so much more enjoyable to visit towns that aren’t crushed by tourism.

Thank you for this postcard Tommaso. The scenery is stunning. When my husband and I travel we love the back roads and quaint villages or little towns. We love to experience life as the locals would and pretty much avoid the large cities.

I don't know Volterra, but exploring the places off the tourist hotspots are always rewarding: Venice, Florence and Milan are all much more rewarding once you leave the main drags and explore the "normal" parts of the cities.

I think the upper old town of your colle Val d”Elsa is a hidden gem! I miss cucinar cantando there tho! Her sourdough was ao good. The market down below and that funny elevator are fun too!

We love Volterra. We very nearly bought a house there and have been visiting for more than 10 years. We like L’Incontro for coffee and pastries and the general buzz. We also like Ombra della Sera for a tasty pizza.
