ciao!!
this chocolate olive oil cake recipe sounds DELICIOUS. olive oil + chocolate/coffee is one of the best food pairings of all time (in my opinion). speaking of which... Giuseppe loves olive oil coffee in 'theory' but i'm not sure it's something we will be consuming everyday. ha! but i think the folks that love bulletproof coffee or looking for something a lil extra in the AM will love it. i do think it's fun to make!
I was raised on the butter cream version for every birthday celebration. It is dear to my heart. BUT, how can I not go past your legendary olive oil pound cake adapted to accommodate this love. Now I might have to play with how to incorporate walnuts...:))
This looks gorgeous and love a coffee cake any day. I try to use olive oil in as many ways as possible so this recipe is a very welcome addition to our table. Thank you for sharing.
When I found living on the Mediterranean that butter was unobtainable and cakes were made with olive oil, I used to offer my own coffee and chocolate cake recipe (M & S 1980s) with the nicest olive oil to replace the butter. The expresso coffee you make to add needs to be very strong and just enough to moisten the mix.
You just need to add a little baking powder and bicarbonate mixed together in a dash of orange juice so the cake will rise. Olive oil and melted chocolate ganache is also fine though you need to eat the cake near a fridge or the whole thing melts!!!
Coffee and orange juice! I had it in a cagey in Budapest as a summer special once. Then I moved to Bangkok and doscoveroits everywhere there! Sometimes it's espresso and OJ, sometimes it's cold brew and OJ. The juice is always fresh. It's such a good combo and so refreshing!

I'm so looking forward to your book to learn more about it, at the moment my knowledge is just based on my passion for olive oil! :D
Thank you!! Cannot wait to share it with everyone : )
Is the recipe for the butter and cream version available? Sounds wonderful!
Yes, you can find it here, behind the paywall https://julskitchen.substack.com/p/coffee-cake

Looks delicious!
I’m not going to drink that (or the other odd one I’ve heard of, butter in coffee 😏) BUT the cake I am 💯 here for!
Looks nice in the photo
oh yes! I had read about the bulletproof coffee and I was wondering if the Starbucks oleato had been inspired by that!
