I value your writing so I wouldn’t ask you to lower your price. The issue is…so many writers are asking for paid subscriptions and there’s just not enough money to go around every month. One day perhaps!

I completely agree. Being first and foremost a reader here on Substack, I feel you. I rotate my subscriptions, keeping a core of 2/3 newsletters that I really love reading, and adding others for a couple of months.

We created a special discount for august, I hope that helps!

As for the polls, i also wanted to choose multiple!

I love the cool-along, the recipes, and the personal stories (like this one!) equally.

As for recipes. i love regional recipes, quick weeknight options, and, of course, dairy free options!

Dear Giulia,

I am in awe of you and the way you have drawn us all in by your beautiful recipes, your poetic expression of the English language and ambitious offerings.

When responding to the survey, I wanted to check all the boxes! I love hearing about your travels, your family stories, your seasonal, delicious recipes and of course, the cook-alongs. Thank you for all of it and I’m looking forward to seeing you soon on a Zoom cook- along.

Best wishes,

Therese

I would have liked to be able to choose more than one thing I want to read about in your newsletter. In fact, I choose all of the options!

As to vacations, we don’t travel in the summer for several reasons: our are grown so we aren’t forced to follow a school vacation schedule, the weather where we live (Portland, Oregon) is pretty fabulous in the summer, I have a vegetable garden to tend, and I don’t want to travel when everyone else is! Our beach vacation happens in February, when we head to Hawaii, where I grew up. I relish walking on the beach every morning as the sun is coming up and eating all the familiar foods. Our Octobers in Italy are the other fabulous vacation we take every year. What a wonderful time to be there! We’re looking forward to seeing you soon!

Also! A book (well author) rec: Katherine May writes some of my favorite nonfiction touching on subjects like burnout (what she calls wintering) and re-enchanting.

I absolutely adored her Wintering book, it helped me a lot face a tough winter this year, it put everything on perspective. And I have Re-Enchanting on my list for the summer books.

I grew up near the beach in California so the sea and the sand are in my blood. Living in Texas I miss it. We go to Florida every year to see Rick’s family and always take time to visit the beach while there. I always find treasures - shells, rocks, driftwood. My house is filled with jars and bowls of sea treasures to remind me. I love swimming in the salt water and walking along listening to the waves! It’s all so soothing and also so profound how vast the ocean is. One day I’m sure I’ll be living once again by the sea. You know I love your newsletter! You’ll hear no complaints from me. See you in October!

Welcome the new changes change is good and like the comment from Kait there are lots of reasons I enjoy your writing and your generosity with your recipes

Having recently visited Tuscany in May we visited Certaldo for the first time and loved the market at Livorno recommended in your Letters

We are fortunate to be able to travel to Australia visiting dear friends for a wedding in Perth in September Your recipes are shared with my Godaughter and there will be beach experiences with the little ones I’ll hopefully be checking in with you on the “ Cook a longs “

I think most valuable are the things unique to Tuscan life and food: its authenticity and artistry.

Un bellissimo post, grazie tante Giulia! Mi ricordo a prima volta che ho sentito dei “diosperi” invece dei cachi quando era una babysitter a Firenze dieci anni fa. Il cocomero e l’anguria vanno benissimo! 🍉🍊

In answer to the poll questionnaire, I have multiple answers for several questions. I like regional recipes, quick weeknight recipes, and more vegetarian and/or fish, seafood recipes. I also like food traditions and stories, travel tips, cook alongs and live chats. If you decide to do a video of a recipe, that would be great. In other words, I want it all!
